The Allen-Bradley 150-F85NBR is a Smart Motor Controller (SMC) from the SMC Flex product family, commonly known as a motor soft-starter. This solid-state device is designed to provide controlled starting and stopping for three-phase AC induction motors, reducing mechanical stress and electrical disturbances. It operates at an input voltage of 200-460VAC, 3-Phase, 50/60Hz, and is suitable for both line-connected and delta-connected motors. With a controller rating of 85A and 60 HP at 460V AC, the 150-F85NBR delivers reliable performance in demanding industrial environments.
The 150-F85NBR offers versatile power handling. For line-connected motors, it provides an output power range of 25-60 HP at 60 Hz and 22-45 kW at 50 Hz, with an output current range of 17-85 Amperes. For delta-connected motors, the output power reaches 40-100 HP at 60 Hz and 45-75 kW at 50 Hz, with an output current range of 29.4-147 Amperes. The control voltage is 24V AC/DC for units rated 5-480A. The controller supports multiple operating modes including Soft Start, Kickstart, Current Limit, Pump Control, Dual Ramp Start, Full Voltage Start, Coast, Soft Stop, and Smart Motor Braking. Kickstart adjustments are available at 0, 0.5, 1.0, or 1.5 seconds at 450% full load current, and start-time adjustments range from 2 to 30 seconds. Selectable overload trip classes include Class 10, 15, or 20.
The 150-F85NBR is ideal for applications requiring smooth motor acceleration and deceleration, such as conveyor systems, pumps, fans, and compressors. In pumping applications, the Pump Control mode minimizes pressure surges and water hammer, extending equipment life. For high-inertia loads like fans, the soft start reduces belt wear and mechanical shock. The controller's built-in metering—measuring amps, volts, kW, kWh, power factor, and motor thermal capacity—enables energy monitoring and process optimization, contributing to reduced operational costs.
Mount the 150-F85NBR on a panel using the provided mounting points. Ensure the ambient temperature remains between -5 to 40°C during operation and -20 to 75°C during storage. The controller requires a 120V or 240V standalone single-phase power supply for fan operation. Connect the three-phase line voltage (200-460VAC) to the input terminals, and the motor to the output terminals. The control voltage of 24V AC/DC must be supplied separately. The integrated human interface module with a backlit LCD and keypad allows easy configuration of start and stop modes, overload protection, and alarm settings. Four fully programmable auxiliary contacts and one normally open and one normally closed output contact are available for external control and status indication.
Regular inspection of the 150-F85NBR is recommended to ensure reliable operation. Check for signs of overheating, loose connections, or environmental contamination. The built-in electronic motor overload protection and SCR bypass/run contactor enhance system reliability. The controller provides comprehensive protection and diagnostics, including power loss, line fault, voltage unbalance, phase reversal, undervoltage, overvoltage, controller temperature, stall, jam, open gate, overload, underload, and communication fault. These features help minimize downtime and extend equipment life. For complete technical specifications, please contact BluePLC Industrial.
When selecting the 150-F85NBR, verify that the motor type (standard squirrel-cage induction or Wye-Delta six-lead) and voltage rating (200-460VAC) match your application. Confirm the required output power and current ratings for your specific motor connection (line or delta). The controller includes one DPI port for an optional HMI and another for an expansion module. BluePLC Industrial offers this model with expert support to ensure proper integration into your system. Please verify current lifecycle status and availability with BluePLC Industrial before ordering.
