In the world of industrial vibration monitoring, the shift from reactive maintenance to predictive strategies has transformed how plants manage rotating assets. The Bently Nevada 200155-21-05 Low Frequency Trendmaster Pro Accelerometer plays a key role in this evolution, offering precise measurement for slow-speed machinery. Designed for challenging environments, this sensor helps detect early signs of bearing wear, imbalance, and misalignment before they lead to costly downtime.
Manufactured by Bently Nevada in the USA, the 200155-21-05 is part of the Trendmaster Pro series. It is specifically optimized for low-frequency applications, making it a reliable choice for monitoring fin-fan units and slow rotating shafts. With multiple approvals including CSA, ATEX, and IECEx, it meets global safety standards for hazardous areas.
The Bently Nevada 200155-21-05 delivers a sensitivity of 10.2 mV/(m/s²) (100 mV/g) at 80 Hz, with a measurement range of ±196 m/s² (±20 g). Its frequency range spans from 1.5 to 10,000 Hz (90 to 600,000 cpm), covering the critical low-frequency spectrum for slow-speed machinery. The mounted resonant frequency exceeds 20 kHz (>1200 kcpm), ensuring reliable performance across its operating band.
Amplitude linearity is within ±2% from 1 to 10 g pk, and transverse sensitivity is ≤7%. The accelerometer requires an excitation voltage of 4.7 to 5.5 Vdc and has a quiescent current of less than 800 µA. Output bias voltage is +2.5 ± 0.23 Vdc. The settling time is ≤2000 ms, allowing stable readings after power-up.
Environmental resilience is a hallmark of this model. It operates from -40 °C to +105 °C (-40 °F to +221 °F) and withstands axial shock up to 49,050 m/s² pk (5,000 g pk). Hermetic sealing at 5×10⁻⁸ atm•cc/s maximum and 100% relative humidity (condensing, non-submerged) ensure durability in harsh conditions.
The 200155-21-05 excels in fin-fan and slow rotating shaft applications. In petrochemical plants, fin-fan coolers operate at low speeds where standard accelerometers lack sensitivity. This sensor captures vibration data accurately, enabling early detection of fan blade imbalance or bearing degradation. Similarly, in pulp and paper mills, slow rotating rolls and dryers benefit from its low-frequency response, helping prevent unplanned shutdowns.
By integrating this accelerometer into a condition monitoring program, facilities can transition from time-based to condition-based maintenance, reducing costs and extending equipment life.
Proper mounting is critical for accurate readings. The 200155-21-05 uses a 3/8-24 female mounting thread with a recommended torque of 2.7 to 6.8 N•m (2 to 5 ft•lbf). The mounting stud option 21 includes a 3/8-24 outer diameter to M6x1 inner diameter hex plate stud. Ensure the mounting surface is clean, flat, and free of paint or debris to achieve optimal coupling.
For best results, mount the accelerometer directly on the bearing housing or as close to the vibration source as possible. Avoid mounting on thin panels or flexible structures that could dampen or distort the signal. The sensor is made of 316L stainless steel, offering corrosion resistance in demanding environments.
Routine inspection of the accelerometer and its cable connections is recommended to ensure consistent performance. Check for signs of physical damage, corrosion, or loose mounting. The ceramic shear sensing element provides long-term stability, but periodic verification of bias voltage and sensitivity can help detect drift.
Given the harsh environments where this sensor operates, regular cleaning of the mounting surface and connector area is advisable. Follow manufacturer guidelines for any maintenance procedures to maintain safety certifications.
When selecting the 200155-21-05, verify that your system supports the excitation voltage range of 4.7 to 5.5 Vdc and that the output signal matches your data acquisition requirements. The accelerometer is designed for use with the ProTIM Option Low Frequency Acceleration-to-Velocity channel type (-05).
