When your automation system demands flexible I/O configuration without rewiring, the Allen-Bradley 1734-8CFG POINT I/O DC Configurable I/O Module delivers. Part of the Bulletin 1734 POINT I/O Digital Module series, this module features 8 input/output points that self-configure as inputs or outputs. It accepts an input voltage minimum of 11 Volts DC and draws an input current of 2-5 milliamps. The open enclosure design and DIN rail mounting simplify integration into existing panels.
The 1734-8CFG operates with an on-state input current range of 2 to 5 mA and an on-state output voltage range of 10 to 28.8 Volts DC. At maximum output voltage, power dissipation is 2.6 W with thermal dissipation of 8.9 BTU/hour. The module draws 100 mA at 5 Volts DC from the POINTBus backplane. Each input can be set independently in millisecond intervals, with a default value of 1000 milliseconds. The module supports removal and insertion under power (RIUP) and includes reverse polarity protection. All connected I/Os must use a PELV or SELV compliant power source.
In discrete manufacturing, the 1734-8CFG handles mixed sensor and actuator control on a single module, reducing spare parts inventory. For material handling systems, its self-configuring I/O points simplify machine setup and changeovers. The wide operating temperature range of -20 to 55 Celsius makes it suitable for unconditioned factory floors.
Mount the 1734-8CFG on a DIN rail before or after attaching the terminal base assembly. Use only compatible wiring bases: 1734-TOPS, 1734-TOP, 1734-TBS, or 1734-TB. Ensure the mounting base is correctly keyed before inserting the module. Set the key switch position to value 1. Connect I/O wiring per the PELV/SELV requirements. The module auto-bauds and auto-addresses on the POINTBus backplane.
Inspect the module periodically for signs of environmental stress. The open enclosure allows airflow but requires a clean, dry environment. Verify that the reverse polarity protection is not triggered by wiring errors. For long-term reliability, keep the operating temperature within -20 to 55 Celsius and ensure the POINTBus current does not exceed 100 mA at 5 VDC.
Before purchasing the 1734-8CFG, confirm your system requires a POINT I/O DC configurable module with 8 I/O points. Verify compatibility with your existing terminal bases and backplane.
